I love your site. Today I went down a wikipedia rabbit hole and discovered the songs of Will Jennings. Made me think that a Any Major Jennings would be right up your alley! (Maybe even add some Waylon Jennings to confuse folks)

Thanks. I could do a Will Jennings Power Ballads mix!

I tried to download The Bacharach/David Songbook Vol. 2. I received a virus warning from my computer. I tried both sources and received the same warning. This is the first time that has ever happened to me from your website. Just wanted to let you know.

By the way, thanks for your mixes.

    Hey there,

I was checking out Any Major Dude With Half A Heart (which is very cool!) and thought you might be interested in the best 1,000 albums ever project, which is rocketing toward the halfway point with almost 500 blog posts released and counting!

Here’s more about the project if you’re interested:

Thank you so much for your product of passion. I know personally how much time and effort can go into making a search and collection of custom material. A labor of LOVE. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to access songs that I wouldnt be able to
Also BTW can you update the Beatles covers 3 vol set?
As well as the originals page Such great history!

I saw some wonderful albums under the category ‘Any Major Soul…’ but all of them from Vol23 and earlier are no longer available as Zippyshare is defunct and they are not found on Rapidgator either. Are there any plans to make them available on Mega at all? Similarly there are many others which are no longer available…. :-(

I think you are referring to the Covered With Soul series. I will soon post the whole collection in one go.

Cool website! I came across your blog on another music blog site. Wondering, would you be interested in including my old all female pop band? We professionally recorded 14 songs over 2 decades ago, but broke up and the songs languished on reel tapes. Fans who traded underground mix tapes begged us to crowdsource the album, and after a successful kickstarter we were able to digitize, mix, master & release it last month.

I see you include a song by Lea roberts laughter in the rain, I have searched everywhere to buy or get a copy on cd or any other medium, how did you get a copy if you don’t mind telling me. Thanks so much

To be perfectly honest, I don’t recall. But have you checked this out?

    Dear Dude,
I am stunned about your widespread knowledge… this is so fascinating! I mean, everyone got to know that Jane Birkin has died – but how do you get reliable information of all the guys from any far out countries have died I haven’t even HEARD of!! And I live in a jukebox! And how will you know who worked as a background singer or head technician or producer?

(When I listened to an older “In Memoriam”, there was “Englishman in New York” – and I shrugged “Sting has died?” but it was “only” an Oz guy who was working as a background singer…

And the access to all this widespread stuff. On another compilation there was “In the ghetto” by Elvis. Heard that a thousand times – pretty soon it came to my mind that it was duet with Lisa Marie I did not know even existed! Heartwarming.

Dude, I know a lot, I think (subscriber of the German Rolling Stone from the beginning on!), but it seems to be a tiny bit compared to you…

Keep up this good work, I will listen (and there will be another coffee soon!).

    Cheers from Germany, Karsten

Danke für die netten Worte, Karsten. Well, a bit of knowledge has to be there, but much of it is just a lot of painstaking research.

    Hi There,

Do you know or have come across sheet music to the Aretha Franklin feat. Michael McDonald song-Everchanging Times ? I’ve looked everywhere, I mean everywhere,

I have no idea, sorry. The original was by Siedah Garrett; maybe that might help track down the sheet music. Gorgeous song.

With respect to the “Telephone” songs, I have a couple of potential ideas for the next mix: New Edition’s “Mr Telephone Man” and “Operator” by Midnight Star. Both are mid-Eighties songs.

I downloaded several “In Memoriams” and could not open the archives for May to October 2023.
    Older archives are fine.
All are downloaded from Mega using Windows 11 and Linux Mint. On both systems they were flagged as corrupt.

That is very strange. They open fine on my side. I have no explanation.

Hey dude, it’s been awhile since I’ve had time to lurk around the web and just really enjoy revisiting your site.

I am going on a nostalgia kick so enjoyed your forays into 70s soul and disco. When I went to the funk mixes, alas they are no more. Can you rectify that kind sir.

    Thanks man.

I have been searching on your site for Tom Waits – and it happens that he is turning 75 this year (well, quite a while ago…).
Maybe this could be an inspiration for future works – I might add some ideas for cover versions.

And: all the best for 2024!

He’s definitely on the list. Awkward timing, when everybody wants Xmas mixes, but I made it work with Keef’s 80th in December. I’ll be happy to have your ideas.

    Hi There,

My name is Ben and I play in a soul-rock band in Austin TX called Glass Bandit.
I came across your website while diving deep into the web annals of Dan, and I really enjoy your style of writing and your thoughts.

We have a song coming out next friday called New Meaning, and I’d really love your honest review of it. We’ve worked hard on this one and I’m pretty proud of it. Here is a link to the song on drive.

Look forward to hearing from you, and please let me know what you think if you do get the chance to listen!

Warm Regards – Ben, Vox and Guitar with Glass Bandit

Is there a change to make a link list for ALL In Memoriam files so I can get them again. Seems I have a few gaps and some archives are damaged on my harddisk. Thank you in advance :)

    May 10th, 2024 at 09:58 | #35

Sorry, Norbert, these collections are massive and take up a lot of space on my hard-drive and storage. Many of them I have deleted, keeping only tracks that I liked. I could upload more recent ones, if you tell me which one you need.

Would you take a guest posting (or at least consider one)? No worries if not, but I’ve got a piece brewing that I have no home for and since it’s looking at forty or so versions of the same song, I think it would fit your Song Swarm series if you’d be up for it.
