Intros Quiz – 1964 edition

January 5th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

bravo_64In this year’s monthly intros quizzes, we’ll continue the five-year cycle, starting in 1964 (next month will cover 1969 and so on). As always, twenty intros to hit songs from that year of 5-7 seconds in length. All where single releases that yeay, except the well-known first intro, and all were hits that year.

The answers will be posted in the comments section by Thursday. As always, if the pesky number 17 bugs you, e-mail me at halfhearteddude [at) gmail [dot] com for the answers.

The cover of Germany’s Bravo magazine, incidentally, comes from Cover Browser, an absolute treasure trove.

    And the answers are:

    1. The Beatles – Eight Days A Week
    2. The Supremes – Baby Love
    3. The Zombies – She’s Not There
    4. Roy Orbison – Pretty Woman
    5. Mandred Mann – Doo Wah Diddy Diddy
    6. Dionne Warwick – Walk On By
    7. Elvis Presley – Viva Las Vegas
    8. The Searchers – Needles And Pins
    9. Petula Clark – Downtown
    10. The Animals – The House Of The Rising
    11. Dean Martin – Everybody Loves Somebody Sometimes
    12. The Kinks – You Really Got Me
    13. Georgie Fame – Yeh Yeh
    14. The Temptations – The Way You Do The Things You
    15. The Honeycombs – Have I The Right
    16. Dusty Springfield – You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me
    17. Herman’s Hermits – I’m Into Something Good
    18. Gerry & The Pacemakers – Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying
    19. The Drifters – Under the Boardwalk
    20. Getz, Gilberto, Jobim – The Girl From Ipanema

It has been correctly pointed out to me that Dusty’s song wasn’t from 1964, but 1966. I am shocked to learn that my meticulous ID3 tagging has suffered such a lapse. I’ll have to revise all my ID3 tags now (see what you’ve done, Stewart? You’re like the customers in the Monty Python sketch complaining about the dirty fork).
